The truth about carbs

Does the thought of eating a bowl of oatmeal, a sandwich AND pasta in the same day freak you out?

“Sara, that’s SO many carbs…I would totally gain weight if I ate that.”

WRONG.

Diet culture has demonized carbs. But carbs alone don’t cause weight gain. Eating in a caloric surplus does.

Your body actually needs carbohydrates for energy. When you deprive your body of adequate carbs, you might feel depleted, crabby and sluggish. And no one likes to feel that way.

That’s where the power of macros comes in. When you learn to build a balanced plate that includes protein, micronutrient-rich veggies/fruit and healthy fats, you’ll feel so much better. You learn that carbs have a purpose and belong on your plate.

So enjoy some oatmeal with a scoop of protein powder and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Pack that sandwich with turkey, lettuce and some avocado. Have some pasta with ground turkey, marinara and broccoli.

Balanced meals make all the difference.

Happy eating!
